Filipinos have world-class skills

Tune the mindset of the Filipino onto world-class achievements for his country and he could readily be on the way to attaining great goals. This was according to Benedict C. Hernandez, 2006 TOYM awardee and general manager of the eTelecare Global Solutions.

Hernandez was among the chosen inspirational speakers for the 4th LEAP (League of Extraordinary and Admired Pilipino) Leaders Congress.

The congress gathers young leaders all over the country and presents three main advocacies: " Maganda ang Pilipinas", "Magaling ang Pilipino " and "Nasa Ating Kamay ang Kinabukasan."

Other speakers were Tony Meloto, founder of award-winning Gawad Kalinga, Ditsi Carolino, noted indie filmmaker; Illac A.A . Diaz, founder and executive director of MyShelter Foundation Inc.; Dr. Onofre Pagsanjan, well-loved Ateneo educator and founder of Dulaang Sibol; Yoly Ong, group chair of Campaigns and Grey and 6 Affiliate companies.

Hernandez spoke of how eTelecare pioneered the growth of the call center industry with eTelecare Global Solution's first voice program in 2000 and how the young people hired by the new company rose to the challenge of rendering their best to attain high levels of satisfaction of clients.

Milestones, including revenue leaps and growth in client number and range of services, proved eTelecare's successes in meeting its goals. eTelecare received various industry and international awards, which now number a total of 55. Highly significant for the company was the 2005 Employer of the Year award from the Personnel Management Association of the Philippines as it bestowed upon the new company in a new industry the vital recognition of its impact in the national business environment.

It also won the Best in Show award for five consecutive years of joining the Chicagobased International Call Center Management Conference and Exhibition. eTelecare presented its wares among long-established call centers which led the global industry for decades, and brought home the prestigious industry awards, proving that the Filipino can be the best and the brightest.

Hernandez told his young audience that instilling a sense of national purpose among its professionals has benefited them a lot. They begin to see the relationship between the passion that they put onto their day-to-day work and the pride of being a Filipino who is able to compete successfully in the global workplace.

They also begin to understand the significance of their work in molding the future of the call center industry which is providing jobs for youth like them in their own country.

"As our employee performs his job at the call center, he becomes aware that he is not simply earning a living but that he is also representing the Philippines . In the global workplace, competition is fierce. To represent the Filipino successfully in the global arena is a rewarding mission," Hernandez said.
